Like a city person who has trouble sleeping in the country without the background noise of police sirens and traffic, we can have difficulty adjusting to peace once free from dysfunctional or abusive situations. The quiet can be unsettling because our baseline of what feels "normal" has changed. What's normal to others seems boring to us. And yet, we must guard against inviting new chaos back into our lives while our nervous systems calm.
Once we find comfort in peace, we must do all we can to preserve it.
